When we started this school year 15 weeks ago, we had no idea that District 142 would become a model district for how to offer both In-Person learning and a full remote learning option in our state, and possibly even in the country. This would be impossible without the participation, commitment, and sacrifice of every single person in our school community to make this work.

We are solidly in quarter two of our 2020-2021 School Year and have proudly had our schools open since August, without any pauses due to COVID. This is a tremendous feat and we all share in this winning process. We must continue to exercise caution, keeping our children home if they feel ill, are displaying any COVID symptoms, or have a COVID exposure. By working together, it offers us the best chance to keep our schools open for students as we head into the winter months.

As always, we greatly appreciate your continued support and wanted to continue to reach out with important, specific information regarding the end of the first quarter, the beginning of second quarter, and a phase change to Phase 3 of the District 142 Reopening Plan.

Thank you to the entire Forest Ridge School District 142 community for your unwavering support as we started what has been the most challenging school year in recent memory. From the creation of our Return to Learn Reopening Plan, where we determined how to educate our students in the safest way possible while still adhering to the academic integrity of our work, to the implementation of putting our plan into practice, we have made informed decisions, necessary adjustments and could not have done any of this without our entire school community. We are seeing amazing academic and social emotional learning happening across the District, both with our In-Person Hybrid model and our Fully Remote learning plan.

Now that we have an entire month of In-Person Hybrid and Remote Learning successfully behind us, our team thought this would be a good time to reach out with an update. The success of our school year relies on the strong partnership between our schools and our families, together we are truly accomplishing extraordinary things!

We want to take this opportunity to remind families that our school district greatly values the wellbeing, mental health, and emotional wellbeing of our students. Mental health development starts at a young age. Our district is proud to utilize Second Step, an evidence-based PreK - 8 social emotional learning curriculum, to teach important age-appropriate coping skills and strategies to help build resiliency from a young age.

We are beyond proud of the tremendous efforts of our students, teachers, and community to get the school year off to a strong start. We have been able to provide in-person instruction, while adhering to all health and safety protocols. We are also amazed by the engagement occurring during remote learning.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility over the past two weeks with the self-certification process. 

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, there will be a change. All students will receive a self-certification message to their individual district email address. This will help make sure each child is certified separately. With students taking their iPads home, notifications to self-certify will be sent to each student’s district email address instead of the parent/guardian addresses.
