We are all excited to welcome back our students!
On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, the Board of Education met and worked to finalize our Back Together Plan which outlines the schedules, procedures, and protocols the district will follow to begin the 2021-2022 school year, including information about the optional covidSHIELD screening and testing available for students and staff.
Back Together 2021-2022 Plan
Our Back Together Plan reflects current guidance and available information. The district will monitor and update our Plan in the event of necessary changes. Building-specific information will be forthcoming from your principal and teachers. The Back Together Plan can be found in its entirety at https://4.files.edl.io/c3aa/
Some highlights include:
- With a return to full-day instruction, students will resume eating in our school buildings.
- A free, daily breakfast and lunch will be available to all students.
- Classrooms will be cleaned during the day and sanitized overnight on a daily basis.
- Increased emphasis is placed on practicing illness prevention, including hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, with reminder signage in all buildings.
- Per the Governor’s Executive Order 2021-18 signed August 4, 2021, all students, staff, and visitors will be required to wear a face covering, regardless of vaccination status, while in our school buildings and while riding on school buses.
Optional Screening/Testing
District 142 will provide all students and staff the opportunity to participate in free onsite covidSHIELD weekly saliva screening tests. Only students whose parents opt-in for this free screening/testing will be included in this activity. Consent forms will be provided for families interested in the screening tests both in paper format and can be found on our website at https://4.files.edl.io/6721/

In order to reduce quarantine measures, the district will additionally offer students and staff the opportunity to participate in the COVID Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests. The District will adhere to the guidance issued by the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) for Conducting and Interpreting antigen testing. Furthermore, District 142 will ensure the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals tested and their test results.
It is important to note that parent permission will always be obtained before covidSHIELD screening or a rapid antigen test is given.
Lunch Room Supervisors
District 142 has multiple Lunchroom/Recess Supervisors at all school buildings open for the 2021-22 school year. $12 per hour for 2.5 hours per day. Supervisors would assist with transporting students from recess to lunch, assisting with basic clean up after lunches, and supervision of students.
If you know of someone who may be a good fit for either of these positions, please encourage them to fill out an application at https://www.applitrack.com/
In our communication last week, we provided the community with important information regarding school dates, school times, and school attendance phone numbers. You can refer back to this information at https://www.d142.org/apps/
Together, we will begin the school year on August 18, 2021. We are excited to provide five day a week, full-day instruction for all students. We also continue to encourage our shared responsibility to foster a climate of respect and acceptance for all perspectives. We will continue to provide our community with updates throughout the year.
